Black Out

Back to harsh, cold Winter/reality here in NYC… and I’ve already forgotten about those Springtime pastels, florals, and brights and reverted to black from head to toe. Here’s an easy weekend look that can transition to dinner and drinks by switching up the shoes… Happy Friday, everyone!

Leopard loafers, Steve Madden, Style blog

Wearing (faux) leather leggings with your coziest sweater is a great alternative to jeans for a laid-back weekend look. I even transitioned this look to evening (a casual dinner party) by swapping the loafers for heels and adding a sheer black tank underneath instead of the white button-down.

Wearing – Leather: H&M (last seen here), Blouse: H&M (old), Sweater: Loft, Loafers: Steve Madden, Aviators: Ralph Lauren (similar), Jewelry: Alexander McQueen ring, Gorjana rings, Saks Off-Fifth bracelet

Steve Madden booties

Not that you will need any layers this weekend (if you are a New Yorker at least…), but here is my take on casual winter layering. I am loving the new trend to use a denim jacket as a winter layering piece. My tips for achieving this layered look are: definitely pop the collar, choose an underneath layer with visual interest (like stripes) so that it pops, button up the denim jacket (a couple buttons will do) and leave the overcoat open. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Wearing – J.Crew jeans (old, lusting after these), Forever21 sweater (old, similar), Boston Proper denim jacket (love this one too), Calvin Klein coat, Steve Madden booties c/o, and Ray-Ban Wayfarers

4 Ways to Holiday Chic

Holiday Chic

Fashionable friends, I wanted to share with you the basic formulas I implement when dressing for the holidays. Here are 4 outfits that I will be wearing this season:

1. Family Holiday Party: Black jeans + Fun blouse + Lace-up Booties + Simple gold jewelry
–Family parties usually involve lots of food, drinks, and catching-up so comfort is essential. For this look, I chose James Jeans black skinnies, a fun blouse from Modcloth, on-trend Bakers lace-up booties, a KJL black cocktail ring, and gold bangles.
2. Christmas Eve: LBD + Amazing coat + Festive heels
–Christmas Eve is typically spent having cocktails with family friends and/or going to church (er, maybe not in that order…) Since this is the only time during the entire year that I hit up church, I try my best to impress the big man upstairs. A no-fail LBD, like this one from Karen Millen, is the perfect thing. Add festive pumps (Charlotte Olympia), opaque tights, a metallic belt, and drop earrings to finish the look. Top it off with a fancy coat (Dolce and Gabbana), and you have a classic, chic look.
3. Christmas Day: Leggings + Slouchy Sweater + Pashmina + Loafers
I’m not planning on leaving my couch on Christmas Day, but since there will probably be guests at my parent’s house I will reluctantly change out of my pajamas. An equally comfortable and infinitely chicer option are these tweed Stella McCartney leggings with a slouchy black sweater. Add a printed scarf, like this Rag & Bone beauty, and studded loafers to bring the look up a couple notches.
4. New Year’s Eve: Metallic-y Dress + Pumps + Unexpected Accessories
–I’m not really a sequin person, so this subtly metallic dress from AllSaints is a perfect NYE option for me. It is feminine but structured, and is it obvious that I am completely in love with it? Unexpected accessories like a leopard belt and a cranberry clutch keep the look youthful and cool. Add a little extra shine with these gold pumps, and you are ready to ring in the New Year in style.

Pants Please

Leather Pants: H&M (like this version), Top: W118 by Walter Baker, Shoes: Miu Miu via Threadflip, Polka Dot Bag: Kate Spade

Necklace: Vintage (similar), Tiger Bangle: gifted Kenneth Jay Lane (similar), Rings: Gorjana (love these too) and vintage

I hate tights. First of all, with a name like ‘tights,’ how comfortable can they be? Second, they inevitably rip so you have to constantly buy new pairs. And don’t even get me started on how tangled I get every time I have to go to the ladies room. What I’m trying to say is, tights are a worst case scenario for me. Therefore, if I go out for drinks during the cooler months, I tend toward pants so that I can avoid any pantyhose debacles.

Believe it or not, faux leather pants can be surprisingly versatile. I pair them with anything silky and/or sheer with a boyfriend blazer and bold jewelry (like this statement necklace) for a night out. Then for day, I would throw a comfy sweater over this outfit and swap my heels for leopard print loafers. What do you think? Do you wear your leather pants to death or are they still hanging in your closet with the tags on?
